• Happy April Fools' Eve.

    / Comments (0)

It's that time of the year... And Mashable has a few suggestions for you. Here's one:

This April Fools', just do nothing. Sit and smirk at everything on the morning of the 1st. Your coworkers will rack their brains desperately trying to work out what you've plotted. You can help out their anxiety levels with loaded comments to match your smirk. "Enjoy your coffee." "Have you used the water cooler yet today?" "Aren't you going to answer that?"

Think you can do better? Yeah, we think so, too. Tell us all about in the comments.

And you can check out Mashable's complete list here.

Tonight, one of Boston's favorite sons, Hill Holliday co-founder, Boston College alumnus and local philanthropist Jack Connors will be inducted into the American Advertising Federation's Advertising Hall of Fame at the Waldorf=Astoria in New York City.

This was a long time coming and certainly well-deserved. Congratulations, Mr. Connors.

PS: We've had the honor of meeting and working with Jack before. If you've never had the pleasure, trust us, Jack's definitely a good person to have on your side.

  • Allen & Gerritsen Hires Majja Dennis & Doug Gould.

Watertown-based Allen & Gerritsen (a&g) has just hired Majja Dennis (pictured) and Doug Gould as Executive Vice President, Marketing and Creative Director, respectively.

Both hail from Hill Holliday, with Dennis most recently serving as SVP, Group Account Director on Chili's, JM Smucker and Dunkin Donuts; and Gould was SVP, Creative Director on accounts such as John Hancock, CVS, LoJack and Anheuser-Busch. As for Dennis, now in the newly created position, she admits, “Watching the tremendous growth of a&g from the outside over the past years, I wanted to work with the people who'd made that happen. My role now is to help the agency continue that pace and do it in a way that continues to deliver breakthrough thinking and ideas for our clients."

  • Do You Know Sloane Ranger?

    / Comments (0)

For some, "Sloane Ranger" refers to some sort of stereotype originating in the UK. But for us, it simply refers to one of our favorite music blogs (which incidentally, is run locally).

What is Sloane Ranger all about ? Well...

Sloane Ranger is the collective will power of a group of gentlemen who all share a passion for music. We may not agree on what tunes are the best, but we promise to share with you whatever we think is the bee’s knees. Nevertheless, Sloane Ranger is much more than just an ordinary run of the mill music blog. Sloane Ranger – if it were a man – would win sports trophies during the day, rumble and tumble with his bros during the afternoon, get into and win four separate fist fights by evening, and would still have time to hold the door (in an Italian suit) for his prospective lady friend he planned on wooing at the local pub. If SR was a girl, she would be hot. If SR were a burrito, it would be jam packed with beans, chicken, salsa, STEAK, salad, sour cream and a whole bunch of Guacamole….and guess what? That Guac would be at no extra charge.

Go ahead, check 'em out. Your ears will thank us.

  • Quitting Facebook.

    / Comments (0)

The Boston Globe is featuring Boston College sophomore Ryan Murphy, who has supposedly given up on the ubiquitous social network and is now chronicling his "journey."

Now, is it just us, or is there something ironic and maybe a little off about "quitting Facebook," announcing it to the rest of the world and then keeping an online blog about what it's like not to be on Facebook?

Also, how do we know young Ryan is not getting his fix from Twitter, LinkedIn (really?) and/or (gulp) Myspace? Then there's also Google Profiles creeping around the corner...

You can check out his blog here.

If you haven't heard, the Bronx Zoo's Egyptian cobra – one of the most poisonous in the world – has escaped and is currently missing.

Yeah, we'd probably hold off on that trip to New York right now...

  • How Effective Are PSAs?

    / Comments (0)

Residents of the greater Boston area should be more than familiar with this billboard from Modernista:

Now with GOOD recently featuring the following ads in light of current congressional efforts to weaken the EPA and hollow out the Clean Air Act, we just can't help but wonder, how effective are such ads?

Well, we probably won't know the fate of the Clean Air Act until Congress finally votes, but if you want to see what Stop Handgun Violence has been able to accomplish with their campaign, click here.

Of course, no discussion about PSAs is complete without mention of the venerable Ad Council. In this day and age of emerging media, just how current and how relevant are the Council's efforts? See for yourself here.

  • The First Avenger.

Let's be honest, we don't really have to dig deep to feel patriotic (or nerdy, geeky, dorky... take your pick), living in Boston and all. So here's the full-length trailer for Captain America. Enjoy.

  • Mystery Man Makes It Rain At Fenway Starbucks.

    / Comments (0)

Last week, at our local neighborhood Starbucks, some random guy just walked right in, declared "I'm Rich!" and then showered the cafe and its patrons with $100 worth of dollar bills, all before just walking right out. As of this writing, no one knows who he is or why he did it (you know, besides him being rich). Do you?

Any tips or leads? Comment below.

As for the money, a store employee picked it all up and said she was going to donate it all to the Japan tsunami relief.
