You Are A Freak.
Here's some nice self-promo work from Nail. As part of the Social Media Summit organized by the Providence Business News, Nail was given a full-page ad in (drumroll, please) – the newspaper. As Creative Partner Alec Beckett put it, "There was something delicious about the irony of it."
Copy reads:
You are a freak.
I mean, look at you: reading an ad—in a newspaper no less. Seriously, who does that? You’re even reading this tiny, boring body copy. Nobody reads copy. People hate advertising and go out of their way to avoid it. So clearly there is something seriously wrong with you.
Or maybe, just maybe, some ads are creative enough to earn the attention of people who aren’t freaks. Like you.
Well done, Nail.

No one reads the copy, say my graphic designer cohorts. BAH. Keep drawing your pretty pictures all day, my friends. And I'll keep bringing in the dollars that keep us employed.
Just kidding, of course. Sort of. Ahem.
When I was growing up, I read every last piece of copy on everything around me. I read legal disclaimers on menus, the fine print in advertisements for prescription drugs and every letter of every newspaper or magazine ad. I like to think, there's still some kid out there doing that.
